Some
people like the idea of carrying pepper spray for protection because they
imagine stopping an attacker without getting having to get "too" close. This
is effective and highly recommended, but this is not always a total solution
or even a viable option in every situation. For better protection you
should have both pepper spray and a stun gun. Pepper spray is
effective on the face, eyes and nose, but a stun gun is effective on any
part of the body. Suppose you are out for a walk. You should
have your pepper spray at the ready to use quickly when you have the time
and distance to react, and you should have your stun gun in your hand
with the strap around your wrist, the safety switch in the on position and
your finger on the fire button. Here is the scenario: You have been
grabbed by surprise and are in a possible life and death struggle; fighting
to get away. That's when a stun gun is a better defense than pepper
spray. On the other hand, if you have the time and are being
threatened from a distance, you can use either weapon effectively.
From a short distance of a few feet, being confronted face to face; use the
pepper spray. If the attacker is threatening you, but is not yet
within pepper spray range, hold your stun gun up and fire it into the air for one second. The
bright flash of electricity and the sound of high voltage snapping
between the electrodes is usually enough to make a sane person take off
running. Even thugs don't like electricity or the thought of being
shocked by high voltage. All of our Street Wise stun guns can be used
as a deterrent like this without getting near a threatening mugger, but they
are perfectly safe for you. Used in this way they can be just as
effective as pepper spray. Ideally you should also activate the 130 db
ear piercing alarm for an even greater effect. The more noise you
create the less the creep will want to hang around. Loud noise,
intimidating zapping sounds, and a powerful spark that lights up the night
are quite scary to almost everyone. If that doesn't do the trick the
real power of the stun gun comes into play. Touching the electrodes to
the attacker and pulling the trigger for three to five seconds will deliver
a high voltage shock causing loss of balance and muscle control, confusion,
and disorientation bringing him to his knees and making him incapable of
further aggressive activity. Full recovery takes about five to ten
minutes giving you plenty of time to get away. There is no permanent
harm. Our Street Wise stun guns all have a built in disable pin that
prevents an attacker from taking the stun gun away and using it on you.
A strap worn around your wrist attaches to the disable pin on the bottom of
the unit. If this stun gun is taken away from you the disable pin will
pull out, preventing it from working. While the assailant is
trying to figure out what's wrong, you will have time to take off running or
use your pepper spray. In addition, there is no fear that you will be
shocked by your own stun gun. The current will affect only the
attacker even if he is touching you or has you in a tight grip.
Electricity always takes the path of least resistance. Certainly this
jerk will have very little resistance when he gets zapped with a Street Wise
stun gun.
It is our prayer that you will
never have to use either of these tools to stop an attacker, but we also
hope that you are one of the smart ones who knows that there are dangerous,
evil criminals prowling our streets seeking whom they may devour.
The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer
for it.
